Your Surroundings: Do they lift you up or weigh you down?
Our Surroundings Shape Us - More Than We Realise
Our surroundings play a massive role in how we feel and function.
Whether it’s our home, our workspace, or a vacation spot, our surroundings influence our mood and mindset. The right environment can lift us up or weigh us down.
And it’s not just about pretty decor or perfect lighting. It’s about how a space makes you feel.
The Power Of Place
We underestimate how much our environment impacts how we think and feel. It's easy to go on autopilot at home - wake up, coffee, emails, laundry, repeat. Even when you're content, the sameness of it all can dull your edges.
When we’re in a space that energises us, we feel more motivated and productivity follows. But on the flip side, cluttered, uninspiring places drag us down, dull our spark and sap our creativity.
I’ve been there. I’ve sat in a room that was technically “fine” but felt completely uninspiring. And I’ve also sat in a sunlit corner of a café with a notebook and a cup of coffee and felt like I could take on the world.
There's something powerful about putting yourself in a new setting that shakes loose the mental cobwebs. It doesn't have to be across the world. It can be as simple as moving your desk, taking a walk somewhere new, or saying yes to something slightly out of your routine.
I’m talking about intention. About choosing to create an environment that supports your peace, your joy, and yes – your productivity.
Because when we’re stuck in the same old surroundings, day in and day out, our minds get stuck too. We go on autopilot. We stop seeing what’s around us.
This week, I took a good look at my surroundings and asked: "What needs to shift? What would make this space feel more energising, more supportive, more me?" By just adding a plant and rearranging a few things wow – it made a difference. Sometimes just moving a piece of furniture, adding a little colour, or bringing in something meaningful can transform your mindset.
Next Steps
1. Make it Simple:
- Think about your own space right now. Is there a small change you can make to freshen it up? Choose one small area in your home that feels “off.” Maybe it’s a cluttered desk, a neglected shelf, or that chair that catches all the laundry. Clear it. Refresh it. Add something small that brings you joy.
2. Make it Fun:
- Plan a mini celebration - Play music you love. Open a bottle of something bubbly (even if it's sparking water), and toast to something in your life you're proud of.
3. Takeaway:
- You don't have to go far to feel renewed. Changing your surroundings can start with small, intentional shifts.
